BOOK A CALL

Why we’re testing a 4-day work week

I’m equal parts nervous and excited about a big experiment we’re embarking on at Blue Sky Philanthropy...

We’re making like Iceland, and testing a 4-day work week.

The idea that the more you work, the more productive you are is an outmoded concept - and one we still cling to in many workplaces, including non-profits.

And the results of the pilot in Iceland are backing this up.

In a report on the study, authors wrote that employees exhibited “greater well-being, improved work-life balance and a better cooperative spirit in the workplace - all while maintaining existing standards of performance and productivity.”

I’m so excited to implement these ideas, I made a last minute addition to my summer reading list - I just started Alex Soojung-Kim Pang’s new book, Shorter, which is a step-by-step guide on how to effectively introduce a 4-day work week into your organization.

And I’d love to hear from you - if you’re intrigued by the idea of a shorter work week, what are some of the barriers to making this a reality? And how could your team and the communities you work with benefit? Drop your ideas below!

And stay tuned, because I’ll be pulling back the curtain and sharing everything we learn from our 4-day work week pilot - the good, the bad and the ugly...
